The story of Huerta’s Tamales is filled with rich history as we turn to the final chapter in the 25-year history of that iconic business.

It started in Brownsville where Maria and Jose Huerta started selling tamales. And shortly after the two decided to move to Corpus Christi in 1992, the Huertas began selling tamales out of their home.

Years later, their first shop opened in Alice. Eventually, the two decided to set up shop in Corpus Christi.

One of the reasons was to help support their children’s schooling.

The Huerta children have grown, advancing in their careers and going their separate paths. For mom and dad, it’s time to take a break.

Over the years the Huerta’s have won numerous awards for their tamales and even have their own food truck. Besides that recognition, the family says the best reward was serving the South Texas community.

The store is set to close Dec. 31.
