It might have been a matchup that pitted two teams that has combined for seven victories this season.

But it doesn’t matter when the Dallas Cowboys are involved. Particularly against the defending NFL champions.

The Cowboys proved they continue to be NFL ratings gold, despite a 3-5 record coming into the game.

Dallas’ 27-20 triumph at Philadelphia continued the NFL’s resurgence as a ratings grabber this season across the nation.

Sunday Night Football has been the strongest prime-time show most of football season. And Dallas-Philadelphia maintained that trend.

The NFL has seen television ratings for Sunday Night Football up over the same weekend eight of nine times this season, according to the media-based web blog Awful Announcing.com. And the Cowboys-Eagles produced a double-digit rating gain from last season.

NBC Sports announced the game drew a 13.3 overnight rating, up 16 percent from last season’s Week 10 Sunday Night game of the Patriots-Broncos, which drew an 11.5.

It was particularly strong across Texas and in the area of other NFC rivals.

The Cowboys may have struggled on the field before Sunday’s game. But the Cowboys and their NFC East rivals remain the nearest thing to a lock as far as consistent NFL ratings.

And Sunday’s victory over the Eagles might have saved their season.
