Who said there is no criticism among the princesses?
Kristin Bell, the voice of Princess Anna in Disney’s “Frozen,” had some pointed barbs for the character of Snow White from the earlier Disney classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
In an interview with Parents magazine, Bell explains certain problematic aspect of the fairy tales that she is sharing with her daughter.
She says that some elements that people found charming in the 1940s are against social mores today.
“Every time we close Snow White I look at my girls and ask, ‘Don’t you think it’s weird that Snow White didn’t ask the old witch why she needed to eat the apple? Or where she got that apple?’ I say, ‘I would never take food from a stranger, would you?’ And my kids are like, ‘No!’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m doing something right.’”
Other aspects of the story trouble Bell.
“Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission?” Bell says she has asked her daughters. “Because you cannot kiss someone if they’re sleeping!”
Is this just a cat fight among princesses? Or do you agree with her comments about Snow White.
And will there be a chance that a similar princess will take her character to task several generations from now?
