Corpus Christi lags far behind in national uninsured rates

A national survey commissioned by WalletHub indicates Corpus Christi’s numbers in terms of insurance holders rank among the lowest in the nation.

The survey indicates the city ranks below the national average in every category and among the lowest in the country in overall insurance rate, adult insurance rate and household insurance rates.

The national uninsured rate continues to climb, growing to 12.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017, from 10.9 percent in the same period the previous year. WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of 2018’s Uninsured Rates by City and also by State.

WalletHub compared the rates for 547 U.S. cities and the 50 states, in addition to a breakdown by age, race/ethnicity and income level.

The following are some highlights for Corpus Christi. A rating of 1 is lowest, 274 is average and 547 is the highest.

• 469^th – Change in Uninsured Rate Between 2017 & 2010 (-3.80%)

Texas ranks with the highest uninsured rate at 17.30 percent in the nation.
