CORPUS CHRISTI – The number ten encompasses a special meaning for one King High School football family."Chris’s football number was number ten, and of course we had number ten on everything around our house," Kenyatta Duckworth said.Kenyatta’s son Chris Gregoire drowned in a retention pond near Lago Vista in May of 2016. Since the accident, she has been longing for the perfect way to honor her late son."We decided we were going to raise $10,000, and award ten students $1,000, and that’s what we did," Duckworth said.After an application process complete with an essay, a list of goals, transcripts, SAT and ACT scores, ten students from around the country were chosen.Tyler Stevenson, a recent graduate of King High School, was one of the recipients chosen.Stevenson was a close friend of Gregoire’s, on and off the football field."I had fourth period with him and we sat right next to each other, and since then we were great friends. It means a lot being able to live on with it. It means so much to me," Stevenson said.He plans to study kinesiology at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi, and said this scholarship will pay for his textbooks.Kenyatta Duckworth said moments like these are what the "Do Good For 10" campaign is all about."If we can just come together and show our humanity and our compassion, then we’re making a difference, and we’re honoring my son at the same time.
