Officials say fully nude bars not coming to San Patricio County

Are fully nude clubs coming to San Patricio County?  Not according to Odem’s Assistant City Secretary.“Never heard of it,” said Becky Velt.Velt says she first heard about a rumored club when a city councilor texted her about an article online.  That article was published July 11th by the “Coastal Bend Weekly”, a site which describes itself as "Coastal Bend Entertainment News".The article claimed permits were in place for a gentleman’s club in Ingleside, with approval pending in Gregory and Odem.“I’ve been here 13 years, and we have never been approached about a gentleman’s club, a nightclub, a full nude club or anything,” said Velt.Ingleside officials say no permits for gentleman’s clubs have been applied for, let alone approved.  The same goes for Gregory, while in Odem, a city ordinance makes it virtually impossible to open a gentleman’s club.That ordinance makes it illegal to operate a sexually oriented business within 5,000 feet of a church, school, residential district, park, child care facility, or any businesses which sell alcohol.“So that pretty well takes care of all of Odem,” said Velt.  “We feel confident that our ordinance is in place, and that’s just not gonna happen in this town.”
