Summer vacation is over for some Coastal Bend kids.

Today was the first day of school for students who attend Tuloso-Midway Independent School District.

The school district is on a year-round schedule, so students attend classes for six weeks, then, take a week off. The district has been on that schedule since 1994.

According to the TMISD’s Interim Superintendent, Rodney Sumner., the school year has gotten off to a pretty good start.

"I spent the morning at the primary school. I spent a lot of time visiting classrooms, explaining to students what I do," said Sumner, who visited all five campuses by lunchtime.

Sumner said there was some traffic congestion in the early morning. He wants to remind parents to obey the traffic laws and not talk on their cell phone while behind the wheel.
