A Corpus Christi Police Department Officer is expected to be ticketed for causing a car accident over the weekend.

Several witnesses posted video of the aftermath of Saturday night’s accident on Facebook.

Witnesses say the officer pulled out of the Vick’s Famous Burgers parking lot on the 4900 block Ayers Street at a high rate of speed just after 10 p.m. They say his emergency lights were not on when he ran through a red light at the intersection of South Padre Island Drive and Ayers Street, hitting a Monte Carlo. Inside that Monte Carlo was a man and his 1 year old son.

According to CCPD Public Information Officer Lt. John Hooper, everyone at the scene was treated and released.  He said the officer involved in the accident will receive a citation and an internal affair investigation is underway. They will look into whether he violated any rules in the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Handbook.

"Officers are held to a higher standard" said Lt. Hooper.

Lt. Hooper says there is no indication in the accident report that the driver of the Monte Carlo received a citation.

Meanwhile, at least one witness has posted a couple of videos of the late night accident. Those videos have gone viral and have been shared thousands of times.
