A portion of Alameda is closed this morning while crews continue to make repairs to a water main break, according to city officials.

Alameda at Robert is closed in both directions this morning as those repairs continue. Drivers are urged to take an alternate route.

Michael Olivarez, water superintendent with the city, said a 16 inch transmission line broke around 3 a.m. Thursday. The cause of the break in unknown, but Olivarez said it is possibly caused by the dry, hot conditions.

Severe heat and changing soil conditions can cause the ground to shift more abruptly. These changing conditions combined with aging infrastructure and small increases in water pressure can cause an overall increase in leaks causing low water pressure or complete water line breaks.

Crews have worked around-the-clock to repair the line.

There is no updated time on when the repairs may be finished and the road will be reopened, according to city officials.
