Chief of Naval Air Training changes command

Leadership of the Naval Air Training Command changed hands today in a ceremony aboard USS Lexington.

Rear Adm. Gregory “Hyfi” Harris relieved Rear Adm. James “Spock” Bynum as the Chief of Naval Air Training.

Bynum has led CNATRA since June 2017, and previously served as commander, Carrier Strike Group 9 aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Incoming commander, Rear Adm. Gregory is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and recently served as commander, Carrier Strike Group 11.

The Naval Air Training Command conducts and oversees all pilot and naval flight officer training for the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and international partners throughout five training air wings located in three states. It also oversees the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels.
