Judge Robert "Bobby" Balderas passed away today after a battle with cancer.

Balderas’ administrative secretary confirmed the judge’s passing with KRIS 6 News.

He served as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 Place 3. That covers the Annaville area.

We’re told County Judge Loyd Neal asked Judge Henry Santana last week to oversee Balderas’ court and take over his cases. During Wednesday’s Nueces County Commissioners Court meeting, County Judge Loyd Neal announced that commissioners will appoint someone to replace Judge Balderas.

In 2003, Judge Balderas was elected to office as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 Place 3. While in office he was appointed Presiding Judge for the term of 2005-2007. Since taking office he has been involved in various organizations.

He leaves behind his wife, 3 sons and a daughter and several grandchildren.

This is a developing story. Stay with KRIS 6 News for updates.
