One man is facing DWI charges after driving his truck into the water near the JFK Causeway.
The accident happened just after 11:15 p.m. Thursday. Officers say a driver was on the feeder road and did not stop when he came up to the water’s edge. The driver was still in the truck when first responders arrived.
A nearby fisherman says the man fell asleep in the truck after driving into the water and firefighters had to wake him up. The fisherman also said he was close to being run over by the alleged drunk driver.
"He came within multiple, less than ten feet, and he could have hit the fisherman or someone else that was sleeping out here in a tent," Senior Officer Paul Janko with the Corpus Christi Police Department said. "Luckily that did not happen."
No one was injured in the accident.
