The community stepped up… to help the Salvation Army food pantry recover from a setback.
Funtrackers partnered with the Kustom Oldies Corpitos Classics Auto Club to hold a food drive for the pantry.
Anyone who donated 5,000 got free ride tickets and a spin on a prize wheel. All the money raised goes to the food pantry.
As you may remember back on June 20th, someone broke into the food pantry and made off with canned goods, a TV set, and a pressure washer.
Monica Salazar, who is the Public Relations Director at the Salvation Army, said,"It was a break in. They did break in through some windows. We have a security system now."
"We’re working on getting an alarm system going at the salvation army food pantry so we can prevent an incident happening like this again," Salazar continued.
The food pantry has been closed since the break-in, but should now be able to re-open.
If you know anything about the break-in, call Crimestoppers at 361-888-TIPS or 361-888-8477.
