The mosquito population has grown tremendously after recent rain events.

These pesky visitors laying eggs, in open waters and in grassy areas. However, Vector Control is working with the city on the issue.

Leaders with Animal Control briefed council members Tuesday, June 26th on their spraying efforts across the Coastal Bend. Nueces County Vector Control has been in ditches, trenches and open water areas with larvicide. This is an effort to attack the mosquito’s eggs before they hatch.

The department is gearing up to spray in certain areas like Up River Road with an adulticide. Adulticide helps kill the adult mosquitoes.

Program Manager Mike Gillis with Animal Care Services says Vector Control will continue to spray from dusk till dawn.

The crew will anticipate spraying mosquitoes in the South Side of Corpus Christi near Kings Crossing followed up by Flour Bluff.
