Weber and Staples is a bit of a mess this morning after a driver crashed their SUV into a utility pole there.
It happened around 5:30 this morning near Annapolis Christian Academy and Hamlin Middle School.
Officials tell us that an elderly gentleman hit the pole due to fatigue.
He suffered no major injuries.
However, the pole he hit caused a chain reaction, bringing down the power lines around it, and resulting in a power outage.
Officials are asking that other drivers avoid the area as they assess the damage and clean up.
Weber road closed between Robinhood and Wasserman, both directions due to major accident. Power lines over the road. Traffic lights are out at Staples and Weber also Doddridge and Alameda. Please avoid the area and use caution. PIO PACE

There’s no word on how long the roads will remain closed.
AEP is aware of the situation and is working to restore power to the area.
