Folks in Rockport celebrated on Friday after a missing sign of the city’s resilience after Hurricane Harvey was returned to its rightful owners.

We’re talking about the well-known wooden ‘Rockport Strong’ sign that had been standing since a day after the storm left the city devastated. As we’ve reported, it was apparently stolen earlier this week.

Now, the seaside community is happy to have what’s become a beacon of hope back in its owners’ hands.

According to Kacie Mahlmann, co-owner of Rowdy Maui’s in Rockport, a city resident (not identified) sent a message over Facebook saying they’d spotted the missing sign. Then, the good samaritan retrieved and returned the sign to the shop.

Owners hope to have the sign mounted back on the shop’s wall this weekend.
