Looks like Corpus Christi has a balanced budget for fiscal year 2019.
City staff outlined its latest budget proposal Thursday, which solved a $2 million shortfall left over in its May proposal. That shortfall actually had increased to more than $3.2 million after final increases for police and fire benefits were added.
However, the new budget does not include cuts to public safety organizations such as police, fire, code enforcement and animal control. Cuts were also avoided for city libraries and senior centers.
City staff proposed moving $0.01 of property taxes from the shrinking & interest pool to maintenance & operations. That saved the city about $1.8 million from the general fund. Staff made up the rest of the difference by using money available through the Texas Ambulance Supplemental Payment Program (TASPP).
