Old city water plant could make a comeback

Posted

An old city water plant near the Nueces River could make a comeback.
The John W. Cunningham Water Plant off Interstate 37 shut down years ago, but now the city is considering an idea to turn the 1950 building into a historical destination – similar to the Pump House in Victoria which is now a restaurant.
The City Council will receive a full presentation about the plan on Tuesday during its regular meeting. City staff have put together an artist’s rendering of what the building could look like if redeveloped.
The main building was built in 1950, but the history of the city’s water system on that site goes back to 1893.
