For most, finding relief from the summer heat is as easy as turning up the A/C.

However, for some, like the elderly or low income families, that isn’t always an option.

Today, Reliant Energy kicked off their 9th annual Beat the Heat program.

The program is a partnership between Reliant and the city of Corpus Christi that allows anyone to take a break from the heat by simply stopping by the Greenwood, Lindale or Oveal Williams Senior Centers to cool off.

“The oppressive heat, it doesn’t discriminate but it really hits older as well as low income the hardest,” said William Clay, vice president of Reliant customer care and retention. “So we want to create this relief valve, this area of really free opportunity for customers to come in and just beat the heat and get away from the summer heat.”

The program is open to everyone and runs until September.
