CORPUS CHRISTI – The Downtown Farmers’ Market: a South Texas favorite.

Many people even incorporate the market into their weekly grocery shopping plans.

“That makes us really happy because that means people are getting more interested in learning about their food,” Cynthia Garcia said.

The money raised every Wednesday at the Downtown Farmers’ Market helps to fund the basic needs of local farmers, as well as summer programs for children.

“Everything that we grow here out of the Learning Garden that we sell at Farmers’ Market helps us buy things like gloves for our volunteers, and bags and twist ties to bundle our stuff for market,” Garcia said.

Garcia said the fresh “farm-to-market” values of Grow Local South Texas help to ensure that shoppers know where their produce is coming from.

“Something that we’re looking forward to doing is working with small businesses and helping them grow stronger, and working with people in the food industry by helping them learn how they can support local and do things fresh from the Coastal Bend,” Garcia said.

The Downtown Farmers’ Market takes place every Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Art Center of Corpus Christi.

Admission is free and dogs are welcome.
