A pedestrian was taken to a hospital after reportedly being hit by a vehicle while crossing a Corpus Christi roadway.

Corpus Christi Police Department said the incident happened at around 9:20 p.m. on Friday night near Port Avenue and Tarlton Road.

There, witnesses told police the victim, a male in his 40s, had been in the parking lot of a nearby grocery store before running across the roadway, possibly to catch a nearby RTA bus.

Unfortunately, he was then struck by a truck headed south on Port Ave. Police said the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries but was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

An investigation was ongoing at time of writing, with much of the scene still closed off as police interviewed multiple witnesses. Video footage from the RTA bus’s cameras was also being obtained for review.

Investigators said it appeared the victim was at fault, as he was reportedly crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk in traffic. They do not expect charges to be filed at time of writing.

We’ll provide further updates as they become available online.
