As a new hurricane season opens, Port Aransas resident Flip Burleson is still rebuilding.

“We’re still working on it,” said Burleson.  “I fixed three rental properties and this one, I’ve just about wrapped this up.”

Even though he was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey, Burleson goes in to this hurricane season without worry.

“There’s no use worrying about it, if you worry about it you just drive yourself nuts,” said Burleson.

Having lived in Port A for more than two decades, Burleson knew a hurricane would come someday.

“I was kind of expecting one to show up sooner or later, I’ve been here 25 years,” said Burleson.  “We were bound to get one sooner or later.”

Burleson says he was prepared for Harvey, and will be when and if another hurricane hits.  That includes knowing his area, his evacuation route and staying informed.  He may also evacuate sooner next time.

“I stay right up until the last day, if it skips us I stay and if it doesn’t I leave,” said Burleson.

And if there is another storm, Burleson says he’ll rebuild again.

“I’m not leaving, I’m not going to let them scare me off,” he says.
