The Nueces County jail has passed a surprise state inspection.

Over two-and-a-half days last week, officials with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards paid a visit to the facility. Inspectors did not find a single discrepancy.

12-years-ago the jail failed an inspection after inspectors found rusty walls and plumbing problems.

Nueces County Sheriff Jim Kaelin says, today, they have no such issues now.

Sheriff Kaelin says,"making this a safe, secure, sanitary facility for the inmates that do stay here is certainly an everyday challenge to us. And we get tested at least once a year, if not more frequently.

Sheriff Kaelin credits his entire staff with a job well done.
