DPS traffic stop results in seizure of more than $230,000

The Texas Department of Public Safety recently seized more than $230,000 in cash during a traffic stop in Jim Wells County.

A DPS Trooper stopped the driver of a Hyundai Elantra on U.S. Highway 281 for a traffic violation. 

During the stop, the trooper discovered 13 bundles of cash, totaling $230, 930, hidden in the vehicle’s quarter panels.

According to DPS, the driver, Narcisco Garcia Requena, 60, of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and passenger,  Guillermo Adreian Acuna Gomez, 32, of Tamaulipas, Mexico, were arrested for money laundering, which is a second degree felony.

Both men were booked into the Jim Wells County Jail.
