A rollover accident involving two vehicles shut down South Padre Island Drive on Thursday night while rescue crews worked to free two trapped drivers.
Corpus Christi Police Department said the incident happened on eastbound SPID near Kostoryz Road just after 6 p.m. Thursday.
There, two vehicles reportedly collided while heading the same direction, resulting in an accident that left to both rolling over. Police said both drivers were temporarily trapped inside their vehicles.
Emergency crews shut down the roadway while the drivers were freed. One driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the other remained at the scene.
Investigators said neither alcohol nor speeding appeared to be a factor and were unsure of the cause at time of writing.
Police at the scene noted that both drivers were wearing seatbelts, likely saving their lives.
