The beach is a popular spot this Memorial Day Weekend. Texas Beach Watch on Thursday reported high levels of fecal bacteria at one location in the Coastal Bend, Cole Park, and several locations with medium levels of fecal bacteria.
According to the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau, these levels are subject to change today.
"The areas identified with high and medium bacteria levels typically clear within a 24 hour period," said Meredith Darden, Visitor Information Center Manager. "Just because one area tested high, it doesn’t mean all of the swimming areas in Corpus Christi are affected."
There are 46 sampling locations in Nueces County. These locations include bay and gulf waters and are sampled weekly during May through September.
If a high bacteria level is found in any of the locations, that location will be tested every 24 hours until it returns to normal.
The CVB added that areas popular for swimming, such as Whitecap Beach and Mustang Island are not currently affected by bacteria levels.
