Holiday weekend brings increased demand at Coastal Bend Blood Center

Anytime a holiday weekend approaches the need for blood donations increases.

Such is the case right now.

With Memorial Day weekend upon us, blood donations are in need.

In fact, I visited the Coastal Bend Blood Center today and look at what we found.

A peek inside the storage refrigerators and it’s clear the need for O Positive blood.

And if that looks dire…check out the O Negative side.

There are less than 10 O Negative blood pouches inside the Coastal Bend Blood Center as I’m writing this article.

The Coastal Bend Blood Center is asking YOU to donate.

You can stop by their offices at  209 N Padre Island Dr. or look on their website for locations of their blood mobiles.

"Before you head to the beach or go to the pool, stop by and give blood. We tend to see more accidents during the holiday weekends and with Memorial Day weekend pretty much here, we would like to keep a good supply of blood on hand" says Ashley Ramirez, marketing director of the Coastal Bend Blood Center.

Although O Positive and O Negative are needed ASAP, all donors are asked to give.

O Negative is the universal type blood.

O Positive is the most common blood type.

So how do you donate?

Several ways:

Have a great and safe weekend everyone!
