Earlier this month Schlitterbahn Corpus Christi was purchased by the International Bank of Commerce for $20 million.
This purchase was made at the water park’s foreclosure sale at the Nueces County Courthouse.
The park will continue to operate as a licensed Schlitterbahn Riverpark & Resort, and they are ready to move forward. And one of the ways they are moving forward is by putting out their Help Wanted sign.
The water park is looking to hire 400 people for its summer season.
The Schlitterbahn Riverpark & Resort on Padre Island is hiring full-time and part-time positions.
"We have tons of positions that are still available. We need lifeguards; we go through probably about 250 lifeguards every summer. We need wait staff, bartenders, our environmental team needs help. We need landscapers; we got all kinds of positions to fill. Most of them are seasonal, but we do have a few full-time in the bar and restaurant," said Schlitterbahn GM Jim Kunau.
Those needing a summer paycheck can search the super-sized job pool available at Schlitterbahn.
The minimum age to be hired is 15, and the pay starts at $7.25 and goes up from there depending on the job.
"What they don’t understand is there are hours of training that go into being a lifeguard. We have Ellis certified lifeguards. They spend 20 hours of training before they ever sit a stand, and there is ongoing training every week and in-service training. Without lifeguards the water doesn’t open, and without the water, well I just got a hotel," said Kunau.
While the park doesn’t open for another 4 days, management is working around the clock to make sure everything is perfect for opening day.
"We are getting a refreshed park, and I think you will see that go on all summer long, as we run through and make sure we provide that value that everyone expects from Schlitterbahn," said Kunau.
The water park will open Memorial Day Weekend on May 26th at 10a.m.
