The Kleberg County Sheriff’s Office is warning its residents about a phone scam.

Detectives say the scammers call in the late evening time hours and request a ransom for the release of a kidnapped relative.

According to a news release, the phone calls appear to be an attempt to scam money from residents and the suspected scammers are targeting the elderly.

The Sheriff of Kleberg County says they have not had any kidnappings reported to their office.

They also added it appears that all the calls have come in on landline phones in Riviera Texas.

Detectives ask if anyone who has information about who may be involved in making these calls to notify them by calling 361-595-8500 or their local Crime Stoppers number at 361-592-4636.
