SANTA FE, TX – The Santa Fe High School shooting has multiple ties to our local community.
One Corpus Christi native found herself just minutes away from the shooting.
Amanda Slivinski, a Corpus Christi native and graduate of Carroll High School now lives in Santa Fe, directly behind the high school.
"It’s pretty crazy that kids just didn’t know or have really any direction of where to go. It was just chaos. It’s really sad," Slivinski said.
She had plans to travel to Corpus Christi Friday for this weekend’s Beach To Bay run. However, those plans were put on hold as panic unfolded in her neighborhood.
"Everybody was at my house watching the news and just trying to stay on top of who was where, and if everybody was accounted for, or if anybody needed anything," Slivinski said.
She described the camaraderie and likeness between the two cities, both of which she calls home.
"There’s actually a lot of similarities. You know, everybody knows everybody. It’s a really tight-knit community, everybody works together," Slivinski said.
While she was not in town for Beach To Bay, her team showed their support with customized "Santa Fe Strong" t-shirts.
