An outdoor burn prohibition has been issued in unincorporated areas of Nueces County.

On May 10th, the Commissioners Court adopted an order restricting outdoor burning during drought conditions.

This, after the Texas A&M Forest Service determined that drought conditions existed in Nueces County, creating a public safety hazard.

The order lasts for a maximum period of up to 90 days, or until a determination by the Texas A&M Forest Service that drought conditions no longer exist.

This order does not prohibit burning activities related to public health and safety that are authorized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, such as firefighter training, public utility, natural gas pipeline, or mining operations, planting or harvesting of agricultural crops, or burns that are conducted by a prescribed burn manager.
