It’s hard to understand the pain that a parent goes through after losing a child. That’s why a couple of parents who do understand want to help others in their position.

Brandi Burleson says when she lost her son last year she didn’t have anyone to turn to who understood. She looked into support groups but noticed there was a need for one specifically for parents who have lost a child. So Brandi along with another parent, started one.

Both parents — Brandi and Randy Paige — say they’ve struggled to cope with the losses of their sons and finding someone to talk to who understands.

Burleson said "Basically just the emotions that you go through and the feelings that you have and talking to somebody who says they understand, but truly don’t unless you have been in a situation like that."

Earlier this week, the support group held their first meeting and plan to continue, welcoming any parent who has lost their child to join.

Paige said "In the end it’s going to lead to some healing for that person and we encourage them to bring pictures because we’re there to talk about their kids and our kids and each other and what we can do to support each other."

The parents support group meets every other Monday at the Hilltop Community Center at 7pm.

Their next meeting will be May 7 and it’s open to any parent who has lost a child.

Hilltop Community Center is located on 11452 Leopard St, Corpus Christi, TX 78410
