CORPUS CHRISTI – Coastal Bend kiddos are getting a sweet lesson in smart finances through the national Lemonade Day program.

"Spend a little, share a little and save a little. We encourage the kids who participate to spend a little of their hard earned money, share a little as well with a charity of their choice, and save a little as well," Yvette Lara.

Kids who participate create their own recipes, build business models and market their brand.

This weekend’s taste-test event allowed young entrepreneurs to perfect their recipes before the official Lemonade Day in just two weeks.

"We do take tips on how we can improve, so we’ll try to improve, or sell more of the flavor," Ava Moreno said.

Parents said this event teaches valuable life experiences like the importance of giving and investing.

"I think it teaches her a way to handle money, and to understand that money doesn’t grow on trees. And how you have to earn a living, and teach her to spend and share," Norman Medina.

First, second and third place winners of the contest were given gift cards to spend on supplies for their lemonade stands.

Lemonade Day is Saturday, May 12th.
