Two men have been arrested on animal cruelty charges after seven dogs were found dead, dumped near the Calallen area last month.

40 year-old Lee Trapasso and 27 year-old Travis Zak were arrested earlier this month, charged with "Cruelty to non-livestock animals".

In a report filed by the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office, Trapasso admitted to investigators that the seven dogs were his and he was "taking care of a problem" after the dogs had killed his chickens and ducks.

Zak was on Trapasso’s property helping shoot the dogs.

Trapasso also told investigators that he couldn’t afford to feed the dogs anymore and thought they had Parvo. Trapasso says he tried to find a shelter that would take the dogs but was unsuccessful.

Both Trapasso and Zak have bonded out.

The two could also face charges in Corpus Christi for illegal dumping.
