Some people in the area woke up startled to a tsunami warning on their phones this morning. The warning said in part "MSG: Tsunami Warning Nueces County 04/25 8:00A til 04/25 8:59A."

The local National Weather Service office says there is NO tsunami warning and this was a test issued by the Tsunami Warning Center in Alaska. Officials with the NWS said this should not have went out to any phones.

The message received on phones did not specify that it was only a test, but the link attached did. The local National Weather Service and KRIS 6 News have put in phone calls to the Tsunami Warning Center in Alaska to try and find out why the alert was sent to phones and not as a test.

This is a developing story. We will update this story with more information as soon as it is received.
