A 2-year-old boy who was found in the pool at his family’s home has died, according to the Robstown Police Department. The boy’s identity and the location of his family’s home is not being released at this time.

Around 7:15 Sunday morning, police say they received a call from the boy’s parents who said that he was missing from his bedroom. They told police they had already searched for their son all around their home.

Officers arrived minutes later and found the boy in the outdoor, above ground pool. They immediately called medics and started CPR on the child, but it was too late.

Detective Arturo Gonzalez, Jr. with the Robstown Police Department says investigators have reviewed footage from surveillance cameras at the family’s home. He says the video shows there was no foul play involved in the boy’s death.

"The child did manage to get out of the house and get on top of the ladder and he slipped and fell into the pool," Gonzalez tells KRIS 6 News.

As of now, no criminal charges are filed in this case. Gonzalez says Robstown PD’s investigation is ongoing, and the department will present its evidence to the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office.

Gonzalez offers some advice for other parents to try to prevent a tragedy like this from happening again.

"If you have a pool, make sure it’s equipped with a fence that closes, latches where a child would not — or locks — where a child cannot open it. If you have a ladder going up to the pool, remove the ladder."

Gonzalez also tells KRIS 6 News that CPS is involved in the investigation.
