It’s been 8 months since Harvey hit the Coastal Bend.
Right away an organization called All Hands and Hearts Smart Response sent out volunteers to the Coastal Bend area to help with the relief and rebuild efforts.
During their time here, they have completed 300 response sites, 3 rebuild sites and currently are working on 4 rebuild sites, including Annie Murrow’s home in Aransas Pass.
Murrow reached out to KRIS 6 News, to help get the word out about All Hands and Hearts Smart Response.
Murrow says this organization has helped her in more ways than she can believe.
All Hands and Hearts Smart Response is a natural disaster relief organization based out of Massachusetts with base camps all over the world helping communities in need.
Hana Wilder, Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, says that 10% of the funding comes directly from volunteer fundraising.
Which is why she chose to put together a Volunteer Recovery 5K Monday, April 16 in the downtown Rockport area.
“We are hoping to raise $7500 dollars to continue doing the work here in this area. So all of the funds raised will go directly to impacting home owners in this area and directly to supporting our programming,” says Wilder.
Wilder was one of the first volunteers to respond to Murrow’s home in the fall.
She just wants people to know that even when people have moved on from hearing about the Harvey relief efforts, there are still families in need of help.
All Hands and Hearts Smart Response will be in the Coastal Bend for two years to finish any work that needs to be done.
