Several people called 911 after seeing a grass fire spreading along the Crosstown Expressway.

Firefighters were called around 12:45 pm Sunday morning.

According to firefighters, the grass fire may have been caused by either a cigarette or a vehicle that pulled into the grassy area off of the freeway.

CCFD Captain Frank Solansky says some people who saw the fire while driving, pulled over and tried to put out the grass fire.

"We do appreciate that we don’t want people to endanger themselves," Captain Solansky says.

Firefighters say it took them one minute to put out the flames. They said they would also use foam to make sure the fire doesn’t start again.
