Students and staff at a Corpus Christi middle school were placed on a brief lockdown on Wednesday as a precaution, officials said.

In a letter sent to parents and posted to its official Facebook page, Cullen Middle School administrators said the incident happened at around 3:23 p.m. on Wednesday.

At the time, administrators said they had received a report that a man on a bicycle carrying a gun was seen in the area near the school.

"As a precaution, I placed the campus on a lockdown…until any real or perceived threat ended," explained George Lerma, Principal at Cullen MS in a letter to parents.

Officials said Corpus Christi Independent School District Police and Corpus Christi Police (CCPD) assessed the event and responded quickly. It was determined that there was no immediate threat to the campus and the lockdown was lifted at 3:40 p.m., according to officials.
