CORPUS CHRISTI – One local student will soon put her knowledge to the test with millions of people watching.
Silvia Gonzales is a fifth grader at Windsor Park Elementary School, and said her classes through the Gifted and Talented program afforded her the opportunity of a lifetime.
“The GT program has really helped me because I don’t just learn ordinary things. We excel in math, reading, and everything else,” Gonzales said.
The star student was one of only 36 contestants in the country selected to compete in NBC’s newest academic game show, “Genius Junior.”
Contestants are quizzed on subjects like mathematics, geography, and even topics as complex as the mechanics of an airplane cockpit.
“It’s kind of nerve racking when you’re up there, and so that was a big challenge when you’re trying to do the crazy stuff they’re having you do,” Gonzales said.
Silvia’s scholastic ambitions don’t stop here. She wants to attend the University of Texas, and later plans to become an attorney. She then aspires to serve as a Supreme Court Justice.
Set your DVR’s! Silvia’s episode of “Genius Junior” will air this Sunday, April 8th at 8 p.m. on KRIS 6 News.
