You will soon be able to see the 230-foot cross as you enter Corpus Christi.

Construction has begun at the ground site, the cross will be right off I-37 across the highway from the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.

The cross was created by Abundant Life Fellowship Church Pastor, Richard Milby.

He says after visiting a giant cross in Galveston, he felt that there needed to be a cross here, in Corpus Christi.

After four different design plans, the final cross will be 230 feet tall, with a span of 95 feet.

It will be made of steel that can withstand 165 mile per hour winds.

Pastor Milby says it will not just be a cross, but an entire religious exhibit.

Once it is finished it will have landscaping around the cross, with a baptismal pool, a Jerusalem style prayer chapel and statues throughout the area.

Milby says he invites all Christian churches to have their future baptisms in the pool.

"It will be a gateway into Corpus Christi, because it’s going to be so big you can’t miss it," says Milby.

Pastor Milby says there will also be a light that will shine from the top of the cross to the sky 1500-hundred feet.

But, before the cross is built that light will shine from dusk until midnight straight from the foundation so everyone knows where the cross is.

As for Pastor Milby, he would like the cross and the landscaping area to be complete by Easter of 2019.

Hoping to have a church service once the cross project is finished.

The Corpus Christi Cross Project is seeking donations, you can donate and keep up with all of the current construction updates on their website, CorpusChristiCross.com or on the Corpus Christi Cross App.
