CCISD’s decision to switch the Hamlin Middle School logo and mascot from the "Rebel" to the "Hawks" is racking up thousands in invoices for new tee-shirts, polos and other gear, according to the district’s response to our public information request.
The district initially justified its unilateral decision to change the logo and mascot on the basis of "community concerns," which, we later discovered, was a single email. An online petition to keep the mascot received more than 600 signatures, but, the district went ahead with the decision.
They revealed the new mascot in February.
