Motorcyclist killed in crash, identified

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Investigators have released the identity of a man who was killed following a rollover crash.

According to investigators with the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office, 25-year-old Andrew Mendiola was killed Wednesday evening.

The accident happened just after 6 p.m. Wednesday on the highway near the 2600 block of S.P.I.D., just before the Ayers Street exit.

Witnesses at the scene said the man was thrown from his motorcycle as he tried to accelerate to change lanes, and was run over by a passing vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle and witnesses stayed to render assistance.

CCPD said the victim was taken to Spohn Shoreline, where he was pronounced dead.

Parts of S.P.I.D. where temporarily closed between Ayers Street and Weber Road.

According to officials, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
