CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Businesses in the area that register to participate in the lighting competition will decorate storefronts and buildings with decorations to shine a light on local businesses in the downtown area during the holiday season.

“The goal of Battle of the Bulbs is to encourage people to come downtown during the holiday season,” says Jordan Michael, communications and events manager for the Downtown Management District. “To check out the décor and to visit the different businesses, restaurants, and entertainment options that are available in downtown Corpus Christi.”

The competition will start on Nov. 23, 2019, but registration is now open.

“In the first year of the Battle of the Bulbs lighting competition, we had 25 businesses participate," Michael said. "We are looking forward to increasing that number this year.”

Lighting displays will stay up through the holiday season for residents and tourist to enjoy.

The displays will be judged on categories, including Best Use of Lights, Best Big Building, Best Window Display, People’s Choice, and Best Overall – Holiday Champion. Voting will take place on Jan. 2, 2020 and the winners will be announced the following day.

Since the competition is endorsed by the mayor, the winners will be awarded a trophy at the first city council meeting of the new year.

Any business in the downtown area that is interested in participating can visit MarinaArts.com at their website for additional event information and registration details.
