45-year-old victim identified in Tuesday homicide

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Investigators in the Nueces County Medical Examiner's office have released the identity of the 45-year-old man who was killed in a homicide on Waco and Leopard streets early Tuesday morning.

The deceased man has been identified as Rene Antonio Villarreal.

Marvin Tatum, 35, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with murder and tampering with evidence.

Officers first received a call around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday about a man seen dragging a body down Waco and Leopard Street.

When they arrived, they found a deceased male on Waco with blunt force trauma injuries to his head.

Officers were given a description of the person allegedly involved, a black male in a black shirt and grey pants.

Shortly after, officers found a man matching that description at the Stripes store on Leopard Street. He was later arrested.
