CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Looking ahead to Week 3 now and we have another Thursday Night matchup that should be intriguing.
Corpus Christi’s 5-A district A5 Division 1 teams begin district play this week. And for the King Mustangs, they will take on the Veterans Memorial Eagles over at Buc Stadium.
King is looking to get its first win of the season after falling to PSJA last Friday night. The Eagles are the reigning district champs. We all know that and King coach Eddie Hesseltine is ready for the challenge that is trying to take down the champs.
“Every district ballgame is important, but the first one is the most important because it sets the tone and the stage for how you are going to do the rest of the season,” Hesseltine said. “They've got some really good players. They are well coached and you have got to overcome that.
“You know your kids may be going both ways and having to (do) multiple things where as they don't have to do it as much, but that is not an excuse. We have to come out and play and that is what we are going to do.”
