CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Javier Becerra claimed the championship in the Dawson Elementary School Spelling Bee that was held Friday at the school.
The competition, which was moderated by KRIS 6 Anchor Paulo Salazar took 15 rounds before Becerra emerged as the winner.
There was a tie for second place among Gracie Recio and Addison Quimby and Jacob Yanesa finished third.
The local championship will be contested later this spring for the Coastal Bend. That winner will then advance to national competition in late May for the 93rd Scripps National Spelling Bee.
