Investigators with the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office Pct.5 are warning the public of a scam involving the picture of a fallen soldier.
In a Facebook post, the group shares a photo of Marine Lance Corporal Jose L. Maldonado from Mathis. Their caption read, "Apparently there is a woman going around Orange Grove asking for donations in the name of Marine Lance Corporal Jose L. Maldonado from Mathis, who was killed in action in 2010."
"The family has reported they do not know who she is and that they are not receiving or asking for any donations. She is described as a short Hispanic woman in her 60s. Thin with long hair," the message continued.
Investigators said she is carrying a picture of Maldonado.
