CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — For those who qualify for Medicare — the federal health insurance program for people 65 and older and some people with disabilities — the next several weeks are important.

Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) runs now through Dec. 7.

The AEP is designed not only for those who wish to sign-up for benefits to begin on January 1, 2020, but also for those who would like to make changes to their health and prescription drug coverage and who are eligible for Medicare Part A and B.

During this period, Medicare consumers can change from Original Medicare to Medicare Advantage Plans for HMO or PPOs, Medicare Supplement Plans or Prescription Drug Plans.

While the process can often be confusing, there is help available for those who may need it.

The Area Agency on Aging of the Coastal Bend is joining the Coastal Bend Aging & Disability Resource Center and the City of Corpus Christi to offer a free 2020 Medicare Open Enrollment Clinic.

Those who attend will have the opportunity for a one-on-one meeting with a State Certified Medicare Benefits Counselor.

The goal is to help everyone who attends gain a better understanding of Medicare benefits and options and have all of their questions answered.

The free Open Enrollment Clinic will be held Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2910 Leopard Street (Area Agency on Aging).

There is no appointment necessary, and those who show up will be seen on a first come, first served basis.

You are asked to bring your Medicare Card (if applicable) and a list of your current medications with dosage and strength.
