CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — The Corpus Christi city council approved the Corpus Christi Police Department to accept a federal grant that will be used to help catch internet predators.
The department's Internet Crimes against Children Task Force program will receive just over $10,000.
The task force handles crimes dealing with child pornography and the solicitation of minors online. The money will be used on software to help catch criminals in the act.
Captain Donald Moore, with the Corpus Christi Police Department, said, "It's all technology. Most of it is software license for that kind of forensic software can range anywhere from $1,500 a year to $3,700 a year. And that's per license, so they'll all have a copy of the software. It's expensive, but it's necessary to do the work we do."
The grant is offered annually, which means the police department can apply for it again next year.
